On February, 22nd in the capital business centre "Victoria" in Minsk an economic forum «Belarus - Italy» with accent on creation of the Italian industrial district in Brest was held. About 70 Italian businessmen: representatives of the largest companies working in such branches, as mechanical engineering, wood processing, building, textile and tanning industry, manufacture of medical equipment and in other branches participated in the Forum. Representatives of banks which totally control the half of the banking capital of Italy participated in the business meeting too. Such a solid representation corresponds to the scale of the task in view: the parties intend in the nearest future to double the presence of the Italian capital in Belarus. The corridor for investments should become Brest region. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Valery Voronetsky, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Italy Adolfo Urso and the Governor of Brest region Konstantin Sumar signed the Declaration on foundation the Italian industrial district in Brest.

The Governor of the Brest Region Konstantin Sumar in his speech before the participants of the Forum announced specific proposals on the project realization. In his opinion, it is the most expedient thing to locate the Italian companies on "Brest" free economic zone territory.-As the head of the region noted : «The territory of priority development is the airport site which occupies 1200 hectares. Not long ago there was a bare field, and today streets and the engineering infrastructure are built , new industrial shops are created.

The main prospective site for the Italian companies location is 26 hectares in the western part of the airport site (zone) which is in visible proximity from the motorway М1/Е30. If it is necessary the additional land plot can be attached to it in the easten part of the chosen territory ».

On February, 23rd after the economic forum was finished a group of the Italian businessmen visited Brest where they got acquainted both with the offered territory for investment and with the work of operating enterprise-residents of "Brest" FEZ.
